I am entering my second year as the head football coach for the Rocky Bayou Christian School Knights; this will also be my fourth season with the team. I graduated from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS May 2008. I played for the Choctaws under head coach Norman Joseph. While at MC I played on the defensive side of ball at the linebacker and defensive back positions. I learned many valuable lessons from Coach Joseph. One in particular was how to be a Godly coach. He used coaching and the game of football as a ministry to invest Christ into the lives of young men. My desire as a head coach is to do the same thing. Coaching is my ministry that Jesus Christ has called me to. I want to see our young men live up to the fullest potential God has created him for. Not just on the athletic field, but even more so in life. God has equipped each student-athlete for a special purpose in life. Our goal as a coaching staff is to help each young man realize what God has called him to do. But, before we are able to help any young man see the plan that God has for him, we must first ensure that a player has a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. This past season we three young men surrender their lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ while at practice. Our coaching staff wants to ensure that our young men have that relationship with Christ; not just in word but in action as the book James talks about. Sports, and especially football, is such a wonderful avenue to so many teachable moments and so many analogies to our spiritual walk in this world. There are many hard times and tough times that we must overcome. Just like the apostle Paul in the New Testament. Paul was often beaten, imprisoned, left for dead, or poor. But Paul was always faithful to Jesus Christ. He understood he had a higher calling life. My desire is for our young men to see the higher calling in life
