Science Club has two yearly trips.

The fall trip was the trip to Apalachicola National Marine Estuarine Research Reserve. We had a detailed explanation of the interactive role of the Choctawhatchee River and it's basin, the estuary, and the Apalachicola Bay. We viewed an amazing collection of marine life in their tanks. Then we went out on their 450 hp 39 foot landing craft to net plankton, jelly fish and a variety of fish. On one day a group went to Little Saint George Island to observe the uninhabited island habitat and the other group went 20 miles up the Choctawhatchee River to Fort Gadsden noting the change in river bank habitat plus the sorrowful history of Fort Gadsden. Another day was spent snorkeling the more salty Saint Joseph Bay and its abundant marine life of scallops, sea urchins, sea stars, puffer fish, clams, whelks, rays and even dolphins from pontoon boats.

The spring trip is planned as a fossil finding and identification trip near Arcadia, Florida. We expect to camp at Brownsville County Park on the Peace River. It is a source of abundant fossils. Dr. Gary and Mary Parker will guide and instruct in fossil identification. Lord willing, we will not only pan near the park, but will spend a day canoeing down the Peace River stopping to search for fossils at promising sites.
