RBCA 2008 SUMMER READING LIST
Dear Parents and Students, Several of our teachers wish to encourage students to prepare for the coming school year by doing selected readings over the summer. The classes listed are the class you will be in next year (AY2008-2009.) I have notified the recommending teachers to test on these books the first week of school. ENGLISH (Mrs Thomas, Mrs Knie, Mr Ward) 7th GRADE--- JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH by Jules Verne or ANNE OF GREEN GABLES by L.M. Montgomery 8th GRADE—HUCKLEBERRY FINN by Mark Twain or THE YEARLING by Marjorie Rawlings 9th GRADE ---FAHRENHEIT 451 by Ray Bradbury or TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD by Harper Lee 10th GRADE -–TIME MACHINE by H.G. Wells or CHRISTY by Catherine Marshall 11th GRADE --- PERSUASION-by Jane Austen or LORD OF THE FLIES by William Golding 12th GRADE --– TALE OF TWO
CITIES- by Charles Dickens or 1984 by George Orwell AP ENGLISH–Read one of the 12th Grade novels; take copious notes on themes, tone, imagery, and literary devices. You will need three pages of double-spaced notes on each novel. In addition, provide an extra typed page or two of the ten most important characters of the book. As you read each novel, highlight and take margin notes. You will take your multiple choice and essay test the second day of class. LATIN III/AP VERGIL---THE ILIAD by Homer AP CALCULUS AB/BC—Worksheets due first day of class will count as test grade. AP LITERATURE–METAMORPHOSIS- by Franz Kafka—This year, students wishing to take AP Lit 2nd semester must pass an AP book test on METAMORPHOSIS the 1st week of school in their Philosophy class to be eligible to take AP Lit 2nd semester. AP CHEMISTRY—Know the elements, polyatomic ions 1-40, and solubility rules. These are on the website. You will be tested the first three days of school respectively.
